How to download your own videos from Vimeo before you leave

By Craig Crawford, founder of Blue Flame Media · 20 October 2026

Before you cancel or let an account lapse, make sure you have a copy of everything. This guide is about downloading videos you own, from your own account.

Back up before you do anything else

If your account is paused or closed, getting your files back can become harder. Start backing up as soon as you're thinking of leaving.

  1. Sign in and open your video library.
  2. Open each video's settings and look for the download option. Availability can depend on your plan and the video's settings.
  3. Save the highest-quality version available.
  4. Also save titles, descriptions, thumbnails and any subtitle files.
  5. Keep a list of where each video is embedded, so you can swap the links later.

Skip the manual downloads

Downloading hundreds of files one by one is slow. Blue Flame Media's built-in Vimeo import brings your videos across directly, including the ones inside folders. It's still wise to keep your own backup.

Where Blue Flame Media fits

I built Blue Flame Media after Vimeo did this to me. It is a simpler video platform with managed hosting, folders, a branded player, subtitles and analytics. You don't need any technical setup.

You can bring your Vimeo library across with the built-in Vimeo import, folders included, so you are not re-uploading hundreds of files by hand. Our prices are on the pricing page for anyone to read.

Questions people ask

Can I download all my Vimeo videos at once?
Check your current Vimeo plan's options. If bulk download isn't available, an import tool that copies videos directly from your account can save a lot of time.
Will downloading my videos cancel my account?
No. Downloading is a backup. Cancelling is a separate step, so check your renewal date.
