Looking for a Vimeo alternative? What to check before you move

By Craig Crawford, founder of Blue Flame Media · 20 October 2026

Most people searching for a Vimeo alternative aren't unhappy with the player. They're unhappy with a surprise bill. Here are the questions to ask any new host so the same thing doesn't happen twice.

The five questions to ask any video host

Before you move a single video, get a clear answer to each of these in writing.

  1. Are the prices published, or do you have to talk to sales?
  2. What happens if your videos get popular? Is there a bandwidth or view limit, and what does going over cost?
  3. How much notice do they give before a price change or account pause?
  4. Can you bring your whole library across, including folders, without re-uploading?
  5. Can you leave easily, and download your videos when you go?

Why these questions matter

Vimeo's 1-star reviews keep coming back to the same few problems: bandwidth limits nobody warned about, short deadlines and big price jumps.

“x10 price increase with 30 days notice for an annual payment.”

“Vimeo has previously publicly committed to giving customers at least 30 days to resolve bandwidth issues, yet this was not offered to us.”

Where Blue Flame Media fits

I built Blue Flame Media after Vimeo did this to me. It is a simpler video platform with managed hosting, folders, a branded player, subtitles and analytics. You don't need any technical setup.

You can bring your Vimeo library across with the built-in Vimeo import, folders included, so you are not re-uploading hundreds of files by hand. Our prices are on the pricing page for anyone to read.

Questions people ask

What is the best Vimeo alternative?
The best one is the one whose pricing and limits you understand up front. Compare published prices, bandwidth rules, notice periods and how easily you can import and export your library.
Will I lose my folders if I switch?
Not with Blue Flame Media. Its Vimeo import keeps videos that sit inside folders.

Quotes are short, word-for-word excerpts from public reviews. They are those reviewers' own experiences, which we can't check. Vimeo is a trademark of its owner. Blue Flame Media is not connected with Vimeo.
