Got a Vimeo bandwidth limit warning? What it means and what to do

By Craig Crawford, founder of Blue Flame Media · 20 October 2026

A bandwidth warning from Vimeo usually means your videos have been watched more than your plan allows. For many people, it's the first step towards a much bigger bill.

What bandwidth means

Bandwidth is the amount of video data sent to the people who watch your videos. More views and longer videos use more of it. Vimeo publishes its own explanation in its help centre, and you should read the version that applies to your plan.

What other customers report happening next

In 1-star Trustpilot reviews, the warning is often followed by a short deadline and a new custom price.

“Vimeo's solution? Increase our subscription from approximately $750 to a staggering $5,000 per year!”

“They simply suspended my account after I paid more than R$2,000 for an upgrade because I had reached the bandwidth limit. However, they didn’t even warn or notify me about it.”

What to do now

  1. Write down the exact deadline and the price they quoted.
  2. Ask in writing how much notice you are entitled to under your current plan.
  3. Make a list of every page where your videos are embedded, so you can switch them later.
  4. Start moving your library to a second host before the deadline, not after.

Where Blue Flame Media fits

I built Blue Flame Media after Vimeo did this to me. It is a simpler video platform with managed hosting, folders, a branded player, subtitles and analytics. You don't need any technical setup.

You can bring your Vimeo library across with the built-in Vimeo import, folders included, so you are not re-uploading hundreds of files by hand. Our prices are on the pricing page for anyone to read.

Questions people ask

Can Vimeo pause my account for bandwidth?
Customers on Trustpilot report being told their accounts would be paused or suspended over bandwidth. Check your own plan's terms and ask Vimeo in writing.

Quotes are short, word-for-word excerpts from public reviews. They are those reviewers' own experiences, which we can't check. Vimeo is a trademark of its owner. Blue Flame Media is not connected with Vimeo.
