How to cancel Vimeo and avoid an unwanted renewal
By Craig Crawford, founder of Blue Flame Media · 20 October 2026
Cancelling should be simple. Reviewers say it hasn't always been. Here's how to give yourself the best chance of a clean exit.
Before you cancel
- Download or move every video you want to keep. After cancelling, you may lose access.
- Note your renewal date and the exact amount you pay.
- Take screenshots of your billing settings before and after you change them.
Cancel and keep proof
Turn off auto-renewal in your account's billing settings, then cancel. Keep every confirmation email. If you can't do it online, ask Vimeo support in writing and keep the reply.
“I tried to cancel but this turned out not possible online as per Vimeo instructions.”
“If you do not want to give your personal information to a third party company (persona) for age verification you CANNOT login to cancel a subscription.”
If you are charged anyway
Contact Vimeo support first with your proof. If that fails, your bank or card provider can explain your options for disputing a charge.
“Specifically set it up not to renew, then they renewed, had to beg for my money back”
Where Blue Flame Media fits
I built Blue Flame Media after Vimeo did this to me. It is a simpler video platform with managed hosting, folders, a branded player, subtitles and analytics. You don't need any technical setup.
You can bring your Vimeo library across with the built-in Vimeo import, folders included, so you are not re-uploading hundreds of files by hand. Our prices are on the pricing page for anyone to read.
Questions people ask
- Will my videos be deleted when I cancel Vimeo?
- Check Vimeo's current terms for your plan. Either way, move or download your videos before you cancel.
Quotes are short, word-for-word excerpts from public reviews. They are those reviewers' own experiences, which we can't check. Vimeo is a trademark of its owner. Blue Flame Media is not connected with Vimeo.
